So You Think You Can Dance: Get Fit (2 out of 5 stars)
Paramount/ 116 min total

In a nutshell: It’s all marketing, baby. So You Think You Can Dance is huge and the dancers have such freaking amazing bodies, why wouldn’t you want to look like them, right? Unfortunately, you will not get their bodies doing the paltry workouts on these two dvds. Sure you may have a little fun and feel cool dancing actually routines (not just aerobics-based dance like on the OTHER dance workout dvds). But it’s not enough. Once you’re actually mastered the workouts there is so little exercise and all you do is repeat the same short routine over and over. Pass.
Synopsis: Let your favorite dancers from "So You Think You Can Dance" help you get fit and funky. Lauren, Travis and Courtney make it easy to learn hip-hop, contemporary and disco dance moves - and get that lean, sculpted dancer's body in the process. You'll burn calories like crazy as you learn each style, step-by-step, in these fat-burning cardio workouts. Plus Twitch, Katee and Dmitry dance right along with you. Then, once you get the hang of it, they'll show you how to put all the steps together into one amazing, heart-pumping routine. Getting fit has never been this fun.

Extras:
Learn the routines at your own speed - slow, medium and fast!; A Bonus Dance Routine usning the best moves from all three exercises; Behind-The-Scenes Interviews with Lauren, Travis and Courtney.
The instructor: They’re all previous contestants from the show. They’re fine but they’re obviously not fitness instructors. I laugh at how they say a specific move will really tone your abs or whatever and the move will pretty much do nothing. I was really looking forward to Travis as he was one of my faves but he comes across as a big dork. Sigh…
Worth purchasing? For exercise? Nope. To do a little dancing? Sure.

Shape: Sculpt Your Abs (3 out of 5 stars)
Gaiam/ 62 minutes

In a nutshell: After popping out a baby, needless to say my stomach looks like a Shar-Pei puppy. Not pretty. So I was pretty gung-ho to get on this ab sculpting workout. It has four five minute ab routines as well as some circuit cardio to get rid of the fat. All in all, it was…okay. It certainly worked my abs though not as HARD as I would have liked. It just seems sort of generic with no real originality or oomph. Perhaps after reviewing hundreds of these workout dvds I’m just jaded and hard to impress but that’s what I’ve got going on here. You also need to realize this isn’t new—it’s a repackage of the old Shape…Your Abs workout of 2004.
Synopsis: From start to finish, the energizing Sculpt Your Abs program from Shape will quickly and efficiently whittle your middle. You’ll get your best abs ever by combining cardio and strength training into one effective workout. This 62-minute program targets all fitness levels with modifications for beginners and more experienced exercisers. Start with a circuit-based cardio routine to burn calories and flatten your midsection. Finish with a 5-minute ab blast to firm, tone and shape your best abs ever. Bonus 12-minute total body blitz workout will hit your entire body in 12 minutes flat. 62 minutes. USA.
Extras: none
The instructor: Tracy York. She’s fine. Nothing special (again). She tries to be very encouraging and she is. She’s quite good at explaining form. But she’s not very memorable.
Worth purchasing? I think there are better ab workouts out there.

So I couldn't actually do this one since I'm 9 months along and I would have just looked like a beached whale. But I watched Crunch Yoga Body Sculpt and that what this review is based on. I'm really looking forward to when I can do this workout as it looks fun and challenging. The instructor, Bethany Lyons, is great. She's good a cueing and has modifications ready. The set isn't anything special and neither is the music but it looks like a fun, flowing workout. I did join in for the relaxation at the end and that was lovely. Recommend.

Quickie

Who can resist cute little pink gloves? I can't! So I strapped them on (they come with the set) and got to punching with 10 Minute Solution: Knockout Body! It's a kickboxing workout for the most part and these little gloves add a little less than a pound to make things just a touch harder. I find a lot of the 10 Minute Solution dvds to be a wee bit easy, but this one really got my heart rate up (after all five segments in a row). I definitely recommend this one as I enjoyed it, it didn't drag, and the instructor, Jessica Smith, cues correctly most of the time. A winner! Ding!
